  • "Women of colour" refers to women from racial, ethnic, and religious minority backgrounds who experience racism. Our definition includes self-identifying women, including those who are non-binary or transgender, who resonate with our mission and community.

  • Anansi Theatre was created to fill a gap in the arts sector by providing inclusive spaces for women of colour to feel represented and supported. Our work focuses on empowering voices that have often been marginalised and creating opportunities for creative expression and community connection.

  • We’re based in Derby, UK

  • Theatre is central to our work, but we also offer a range of creative programs, including workshops, community events, and activities like art, music, dance, spoken word, and more!

  • The Drama Club is designed to give girls and young women of colour a safe and supportive space where they can see themselves represented and freely explore their creativity. We’ve found that having spaces specifically for them helps build confidence, create community, and make them feel truly included in the arts.

  • Our Drama Club is specifically for young people aged 6-18 who identify as female and are from the global majority. This focus allows us to create a space tailored to their unique experiences and needs. For those outside this group, feel free to reach out—we’d be happy to recommend other inclusive programs that may be a great fit.

  • Our mental health sessions are tailored for women of colour because they often face unique challenges and experiences that impact their wellbeing. By focusing on this community, we can provide support that directly addresses these specific needs in a safe and understanding environment.

  • Anansi Theatre is funded by grants, donations, and supporters like the National Lottery through Arts Council England, allowing us to continue our mission of empowering women of colour in the arts.

  • Our spaces are built to address a need in the arts sector and to support voices that have historically been underrepresented. We are inclusive in our values, but we focus on providing spaces specifically for women of colour to ensure they feel seen, valued, and heard.

  • You can support Anansi Theatre by attending our events, donating, volunteering, or sharing our mission with others. Visit the Support Us page to find out more about getting involved.
